Since I invested in some new piano studio equipment to move piano lessons online, it only made sense to use the new technology and learn new software. For those students taking summer lessons, I decided to write pieces for each student, using their suggestions when possible. These are just for fun, and short compositions for beginning students. Feel free to use any of these pieces as you wish!
This first piece was a result of a student's request to have a piece about a Panda, with a baby panda, eating bamboo, a slow piece, but a playful piece. Challenge accepted! There are actually some pretty challenging aspects with the parallel 4ths. I would have continued the rhythmic pattern of the left hand throughout the piece, but was concerned it could cause hand tension to do so for a student at this level. You certainly could though. There is an opportunity to discuss inverted patterns in this piece also.
Since this piece was "just for fun", I thought a short video would be helpful to encourage the student. I also added a simple percussion part that could be used as a metronome for practice purposes. I've discovered that many times, the student's acoustic piano at home is a half step flat (extremely common), so I've included a play-along version that is lowered a half step.
